At Thatto Heath Community Primary School we have a dedicated Pupil Care Team who can offer a range of support to our pupils and families. They ensure that our children and families feel cared for, listened to and appropriately supported.
HOW CAN WE HELP?
The team work relentlessly to improve attendance and to ensure that any pupils who are absent from school without reason are contacted. Home visits are carried out regularly. In some cases, where exceptional circumstances are making it difficult for families to get their children to school, the team can support with transport.
We liaise closely with our EWO to provide an additional layer of support where needed.
Should you wish to discuss any issues or concerns around attendance, please contact any member of the team to discuss.
Mrs Lynch, our Learning Mentor, works with many children across the school both individually or in groups.
She can provide guidance and support for a range of issues including behaviour, social, emotional and mental health issues, bereavement, self-esteem and confidence.
For some pupils this may involve a short term intervention – sometimes just a chat is enough! For others it may be a longer programme of support or a fixed block of support dependant on need.
Some of the programmes that pupils could be involved in include
- ‘Happy to be me’
- Draw and Talk therapeutic approaches
- Play Therapy type approaches
- ‘Wise Behavoiour Choices’
The Learning Mentor can offer advice and guidance to support parents in managing behaviour at home through our ‘drop in’ Behaviour Support Meetings, or by arranging a meeting or telephone discussion. Please contact the school office should you wish to contact the Learning Mentor.
Pastoral Support/Pupil Care
The aim of the PS/PC team is to listen to, support and advise our families and children on a wide range of possible difficulties and concerns to help them to reach their full potential.
The team can give advice and sign post parents to other services when some additional support is required.
Support can be provided via an EHAT (Early Help Assessment) which is a holistic approach to improving outcomes for children and families.
The team can also make onward referrals for Triple P and Stepping Stones Positive Behaviour Management Programme, as well as School Health and other external agencies.
In addition to this the Pupil Care team can provide support and advice to any families who find themselves in times of hardship. We are able to issue Food Bank Vouchers in some cases where need is great. Please contact the pupil care team in confidence should you wish to discuss any concerns.
The team can be contacted at any time via the school office.
We are very lucky to have a dedicated medical officer in school. Her role is varied, from first aid to supporting pupils with complex medical needs. She liaises with parents around care plans and medicines.
Should you wish to discuss any health needs or medical matters with Mrs King please contact the school office.
