We have recently received a number of complaints regarding the use of social media amongst the children. It has been brought to our attention of inappropriate videos, images and language being used or uploaded on to social media sites. This includes Instagram, Youtube, facebook etc. Can I please remind parents that children should be over 13 years of age to access many of these sites but it is possible a friend may have helped your child to set up these accounts.
Children are spoken to regularly regarding the dangers of conversing over the web and told not to give personal and private details out. I would be grateful if you could speak to your child over the weekend to reiterate the dangers and the need to be respectful of social networking sites as all comments/videos and images are permanently recorded and if unacceptable could be assumed to be cyber bullying or libellous.
In some cases, images have been uploaded by children in school. Please be aware only children in Year 5 and 6 are allowed to bring a phone, and only if parents have signed a permission slip to confirm their child walks to and from school alone. These phones are handed in at the office on arrival and collected on exiting the school, at the end of the day.
Any child found with their phone during the daytime will have it confiscated and he/she will not be allowed to bring their phone in to school in the future.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support in this matter
